Honouring the Silent Smiths of the Khalsa Legacy

Mission Sikligar is a dedicated initiative by Sikh Riders aimed at supporting and uplifting the Sikligar Sikh community—the historically significant yet often forgotten artisans known as the silent smiths of the Khalsa legacy. These skilled blacksmiths and traditional weapon-makers once forged the very swords that armed the Khalsa Fauj, playing a pivotal role in Sikh history.

From crafting blades during the time of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji to supporting Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s vision for the Khalsa, the Sikligars’ legacy is one of courage, craftsmanship, and devotion. Despite their profound contributions, today they face poverty, social marginalization, and limited access to basic necessities like education, healthcare, and housing.

🔨 Who Are the Sikligars?

Spread across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Delhi, the Sikligar Sikhs—also known as Moyals—were once nomadic artisans, often living on the fringes of towns and cities. Their name stems from the Arabic word “saiqal”, meaning polisher. Historically believed to be descendants of Rajput warriors, they disguised themselves as blacksmiths during times of persecution, eventually becoming weapon-makers for the Sikh resistance.

Sikh Riders recognizes the pressing need to bring this community back into the light. Mission Sikligar focuses on:

• Providing safe and dignified housing
• Ensuring access to education for Sikligar children
• Delivering essential resources such as clean water, nutrition, and healthcare
• Reviving and preserving their cultural and spiritual legacy
• Promoting economic self-reliance through vocational training and artisan support

We are not just offering aid—we are empowering a legacy. By working directly with the community, sharing their stories, and building sustainable support structures, we aim to restore dignity to the hands that once forged the weapons of freedom.
